Mictlán is the 9th and last level of the underworld in the Aztec mythology. It is located far to the north and it is the place to which most death people go.
The journey from the first level to the ninth is difficult and takes four years. There are several challenges, such as crossing a mountain range where the mountains crashed into each other, a field with wind that blew flesh-scraping knives, and a river of blood with fearsome jaguars that the dead have to pass to get there and finally rest in peace.​
