La Macarena

People have gone missing in Colombia since the late 80’s and then small mass graves full of NNs have been found all around the country.

During the presidency of Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010), the numbers increased from 30.000 to 62.000 missing persons, and many of them have been found in the last few years in mass graves.

In 2010,  a mass grave was found in La Macarena, a little town in the department of Meta, Colombia. With around 2000 corpses, all of NNs, is the biggest mass grave to be known in Latin America.

People of the town asure that between 2008 and 2009, helicopters of the Military Forces arrived each week to dump hundreds of corpses. Today we know that many of the people buried there as NNs, are in fact, Falsos Positivos*. Which were unofficial executions commited by the Colombian Military Forces under Uribe’s “Democratic Security Policy”.
